Grateful is the best way to describe how I’ve felt for the past decade since Michael’s sports photos first graced the pages of the Healdsburg Tribune.

During that time he’s made a lasting contribution to promote youth sports and capture memorable moments for thousands of kids, while at the same time making a huge impact in providing professional quality images for our newspapers ...

I’m proud to say that what started as a professional relationship has since blossomed into a great friendship. Thank you Michael for all you do, it is much appreciated!

I believe I met Michael around 2010 at a track meet I was covering for The Press Democrat newspaper. I noticed him taking photos and asked if he could send me a couple to use on my running website. That began a relationship that is still going strong and has blessed countless numbers of teens and their families.

Michael took what was just a small hobby to him, and turned it into some of the best sports shots I have ever seen. Whether it is pouring rain that would make a duck run for cover or 110 degrees, you can find Michael out there trying to get a shot of every single kid he can, whether they are going to be our next national champion or the last kid to cross the finish line. I know some of these kids will cherish the shots Michael has taken of them for the rest of their lives ...

My hat is off to Michael because of the beauty of his work with a camera, but beyond that for his dedication, generosity and support of youth sports.

Michael has been the lead photographer at a number of our sports events, from dynamic multi-sport races like the Sonoma Women’s Triathlon, to classic trail runs, like Skyline Endurance, to community events like our turkey trots. In every case, he has captured superb images that have pleased our athletes and served us well in pre and post event marketing.

Michael also has a great manner about him. Our athletes comment on how personable he is and gladly give him shout outs on-course as they race.

Great images and a pleasure to have around.

Michael Lucid’s photos have the unique and amazing ability to not only capture an image, but a memory. When looking at his photographs, you can see the passion, tension, and excitement that radiate from the moment. He captures the tense side by side strides of competitors racing down the home stretch, the nervous smiles and pure excitement of a team chant at the start line, and the exhausted but supporting embraces of teammates at the finish line.

Over the years, details of each race, tournament, match get lost in the brain. But one look at one of Michael’s photos brings back those cherished memories and emotions. A photographer can capture a photo, but an artist like Michael can truly capture the entire memory.

Many thanks from the whole community for all of the beautiful work you’ve done over the years. It means so much more that you will ever know.
